Why be Billingual?

  1. Gaelic medium pupils acquire or develop an extra language without loss in any other curricular areas -*
  2. Learning Gaelic at a young age makes it easier to learn other Europena languages
  3. Puupils who grow up with more than one language have a range of mental benefits that make them better at learning and more effective at dealing with complex situations – *
  4. Gaelic gives the Highlands a distinct identity. It creates the sense of place that respects its heritage and its culture – and which is proud of Gaelic’s national and international significance
  5. Gaelic can open doors to many career opportunities such as the media, arts, business, management, teaching, local and national government

Se latha fada a bh’ann airson a h-uile duine seach’s gun do chaill sinn am fosgladh anns an rathad agus cha do dh’fhosgail e a rithist gu 2.35.

Co dhiubh, bha e math gun deach cha mhòr nach leth dhen sgoile dhan a’ Mhòd.

Lochalsh Provincial Mod

On 8th October, 2018  the local Mod was held in Plockton High School and a group of Gaelic Medium pupils and learners went from LochCarron Primary School. Nineteen volunteers from the school took part and this meant that almost half the school roll was taking part singing and reciting poetry.

Domhnall Macpherson Raffell won first place in poetry for Gaelic Medium pupils and Callum Watson took third place. In the learner’s poetry competition, Izzy Furness won a cup and gold medal for first place and Cain Courtney won a silver medal for second place. Kiera Gillies came third in this competition.

In the poetry competition for Gaelic Medium pupils Primary 5 – 7, Vivienne Goodman came second and Jack Stewart third.

It was a long day for everyone because we just missed the road opening and had to wait two and a half hours for the next opening.

Anyway, it was good that almost half the school took part in the Mod.

Turas Ball-coise

Diciadain, 7mh Màirt, chaidh sgioba bhall-coise Bun-sgoil LochCarrainn gu Inbhirnis airson co-fharpais 7nar gach sgioba. ‘Se latha brèagha gheamhraidh a bh’ann – fuar ach taitneach – an deidh an aimsir reòthte a tha air a bhith aig an dùthaich airson an co-la-deug mu dheireadh.

Chaidh an co-fharpais a chumail ann an Acadamaidh Millburn agus bha 8 sgoiltean eile an sàs ann a’ mhòr-chuid dhiubh fada na bu mhotha na Bun-sgoil LochCarrainn. Chan fhaca sinn ach ceithir caileagan a’ cluich fad an latha agus bha dithis dhiubh a’ cluich airson sgioba LochCarrainn. Mar sin rinn sinn gu math aig deireadh an latha. Chaill sinn sia geamannan agus chriochnaich dhà gheama co-ionnan. Cha do chuir sgioba sam bith barrachd air ceithir thadhail seachad oirnn ged a bha na luchd-dion againn gu math trang.

Co dhiubh chord an latha rinn fior mhath.

7-a side Football

On Wednesday 7th March, 2018 a team of footballers went to Inverness to take part in a 7-a side football competition at Millburn Academy. It was a great learning experience for us all. We knew we wouldn’t be involved in battling for the one place available to qualify for the finals which are due to be played at Hampden Park in the summer since we were up against some much bigger schools.

There were only four girls in the whole competition and two of them were playing for Lochcarron. We managed to draw two games and lost the other six. There were nine teams competing altogether, some with school rolls of 378 and 348. So it was no disgrace for us to lose to teams like that and, mostly, we fought a brave rearguard action and our biggest defeat was 4 – 0.

It was a very enjoyable day and I am sure our players will have learned a lot from the experience!

People Who Help Us:

Plockton Flower Show

Anns an teirm Earraich, fhuair Bun-sgoil LochCarrainn bocsa bho Fèill a’ Ghàrraidh anns a’ Phloc. ‘Na bhroinn, bha siol dhen iomadh seòrsa agus thuirt iad gun robh iad ag iarraidh gum bi sinn a’cur na sìl airson feuchainn na co-fharpais lusan aca.

Chur sinn na buntàta, siol churrain, cucumber, agus courgette anns an teirm samhraidh agus thug Mrs Stark a steach planndais bheaga cauliflower bho’n taigh-ghlainne aice.

Fhuair sinn teachdaireachd air am fòn gun robh am Fèill a’ dol a bhith ann air an 27mh latha dhen Lùnasdal agus gun robh iad deiseil airson a’ bhocsa fhaighinn airson an co-fharpais. Uill, cha robh fios againn an do dh’fhàs rud sam bith!!  Mar sin chaidh sinn a mach airson cladhach anns a’ ghàrradh. Cha do dh’fhàs na currain idir! Bha na courgettes glè bheag agus na cucumbers beagan na bu mhotha. Bha aon cauliflower fior mhath agus, nuair a dh’fheuch sinn na buntàtaichean , bha iad direach miorbhuileach! Agus gu leòr dhiubh cuideachd!

Anns a’ Phloc bha iad direach toilichte gun do dh’fheuch sinn anns a’ cho-fharpais. Fhuair sinn an treas àite airson sgoiltean ionadail agus fhuair aon dhe na buntàtaichean againn an dàrna duais airson am buntàta a’s motha anns an Fhèill uile gu lèir.

Bha sinn cho toilichte agus bha tòrr spòrs againn uile ag obair anns a’ ghàrradh gu h-àraidh an fheadhainn bheaga.

Vivienne P3.

Aon oidhche bha Sophie a’ fuireach ann an taigh dìlleachdan. Ghoid fuamhaire i a mach as a leabaidh. Thug am fuamhaire Sophie air ais dhan dùthaich na fuamhairean. An sin bha naoi fuamhairean mosach agus b’àbhaist dhaibh a bhi a’ dol a mach agus clan beaga ithe.

Bha sophie a’ bruidhinn ris agus thuirt e gur e fuamhaire snog a bh’ann. Chaidh iad airson aislingean a chruinneachadh. Thug iad bruadar dhan a’ bhanrigh mu fuamhairean ag ithe clan bheaga.

Làbha siud bha Sophie anns a leabaidh. Thog fuamhaire i a mach as a rùm. Bha eagal oirre. Thog am fuamhaire i gu dùthaich nam fuamhairean. Thug e i dhan uamh aige agus chuir e i sìos air bòrd. Dh’innis e dhith gur e fuamhaire gasda a bha ann. Bha naoi fuamhairean mosach ann a bha ag ithe clann bheaga.

An term seo tha sinn a’dèanamh Dìneasairean mar pròiseact agus thuirt cuideigin gum biodh e math falbh is faicinn na fosailean dhìneasair a th’aca anns an taigh-tasgaidh sin.

Thabhainn Sìne Ghilleasbuig dhuinn aig an taigh-tasgaidh. Is ise a chuir a h-uile rud air bhonn airson ar turas. Rinn ise cinnteach gun robh Dugald Ross aig an taigh-tasgaidh airson bruidhinn rinn anns a’ Ghàidhlig. Lorg esan a’ mhòr-chuid dheth na fosailean e fhèin agus bha e uamhasach inntineach.

Tha barrachd fosailean dhìneasair air a bhith lorg annan Staffainn na anns a h-uile pàirt eile ann am Breatainn gu lèir agus thuirt Dugald gun urrainn dha falbh a mach uair sam bith agus fosail eile a lorg gun trioblaid sam bith.

Chunnaic sinn fiacail fior dìneasair agus cnàimh fior dineasair. Nuair a tha thu a’ smaoineachadh gun deach na beathaichean sin a mach a bith barrachd air 65 millean bliadhnaichean air ais……nach eil e a’ cuir iongnadh ort?

An deidh an taigh-tasgaidh, chaidh sinn dhan Bun-Sgoil Staffainn agus thachair sinn ris a’ chlann ann a shin. Tha 15 ann uile gu lèir agus chan eil ach triùir anns an taobh Bheurla!
